Dr. Giovanni Pasquali, a former PhD student at the Oxford Department of International Development (ODID) and TMCD, co-supervised by Prof Xiaolan Fu and Professor Diego Sánchez-Ancochea, has recently won the 2021 Best Phenomenon-Based Paper Award from the Journal of World Business. 

The paper titled 'When value chains go South: Upgrading in the Kenyan leather sector' was based on a chapter of his PhD thesis. It theorises whether and how links to North-South and South-South value chains differently affect suppliers’ delivery of product quality and value-added tasks, as well as their improvement over time.
