Shalmalee Ghate, a TMCD affiliate and second year MPhil student at the Department of International Development recently co-authored a UNCDF Country Report on Malawi. The report examines the financial ecosystem of Malawi and points to key challenges faced by Malawian youth in accessing the financial system. In addition, it highlights potential opportunities available for Malawian youth in various sectors of the country’s economy and proposes some interventions to address the barriers in the way. Shalmalee conducted a three months long fieldwork in the summer of 2015 to collect interview data through stakeholder interviews and focus groups and synthesized the data with secondary desk research to produce the report.
