An article by TMCD Researcher and Dphil candidate, Nwamaka Ogbonna, titled 'Can Chinese Special Economic Zones revitalise Nigeria’s manufacturing industry? was recently published by the Africa Report. In the article, she argued that more than a decade after the establishment of Chinese SEZs in Nigeria, their impact on domestic manufacturing so far remains limited. According to her, they operate as enclaves with limited linkages to the domestic economy, therefore reducing the learning opportunities available  to domestic firms. According to her, the situation can be improved given that these SEZs are relatively young however this would require a more strategic approach by the Nigerian government.
