Giovanni Paquali
Giovanni is a DPhil student at the department of International Development. His work explores different patterns of upgrading among smallholders entering global and regional value chains, with a specific focus on the leather sector in Kenya. His research proposes a mixed-methods approach combining firm-level interviews with disaggregated export data to assess aspects of governance and upgrading in South-South and South-North value chains. Giovanni is currently funded by the ESRC and Scatcherd scholarship programmes.
Before starting the DPhil, Giovanni earned an MSc in Global Governance and Diplomacy from the University of Oxford (distinction) and an MA in International Relations from the Universität Bremen as a Friedrich Naumann Scholar.
